The Year of the Netbook

Made it easier to write. You can get info off it. Take crazy pictures. Show the world your work. Not worry about it getting messy. Dislikes
Wireless disconnecting. Getting distracted by adds from google

This year I have really enjoyed having a Netbook to work on because without them more trees get cut down for paper to write on. Furthermore having a Netbook has meant that less trees get cut down and everyone still has air to live with.

As much as I have loved having a Netbook there are some things that I haven’t liked because when I log in people look at what I’m typing and then they know my password. One time Lee nearly hacked into my netbook.

The difference between paper and netbooks are if you need info, you can auctaully search up on it instead of doing thing’s you don’t even know about.

One of the greatest challenges for me is not to play games and release my anger when it says unable to connect. One time I felt like getting some T.N.T and blowing it up.

If the netbook scheme failed I think I would really mad but I’ll try to suck it up. I bet I wold crying on the inside but the pen and paper feeling on the outside.

Outta this world: The Final Adventure

The planet has absolutely no air and the air is 5 million billion light years away in the milky way.

Solution 1 could be making an oxygen bar filling a huge snow globe. Soon add a little hole for the water to go through. Afterwards plant grass and other things to live.

Solution 2 could be making a mine for warmth. Soon after that add oxygen filling the place.

You could also have an A.S (Air Spray) which lasts for 105 years. That way they can live their whole life with air just by one spray.

Once you get on the planet that's when you get handed this spray which you must spray yourself with when your in your spaceship. Then you can get out and enjoy the life you have.

That's when they can enjoy their life.

Vy Canis Majoris:Biggest star yet

VY Canis Majoris is the largest star found in this universe. If you think that the sun (Called Sol) is the biggest, its not. It's called a yellow dwarf. Those are smaller than pistol stars! Wow!

But for now, imagine a passenger plane flying over the star at 900 km/ph. It would take about 1,100 years to circle this star ONCE!! Earth, compared to it is only the size of a grain of sand! It is in the midst of life, meaning that soon it will die, with a possibly big supernova. If that happens, Mu cephei will be the biggest star in the known universe.

Athletics or rain?

Athletics on Wednesday in the sun,
And soon everything had started or begun.
We had to grunt,
And Shalom did a stunt.
While racing, I just could not run! Unfun!

All the days that have a lot of rain,
Always seem to give me pain.
I study about space,
Lee won a race.
Beleive me, I am NOT insane!

50 word adventure

Climbing up the hill, I dodged the poo. At the top, I had a view of Auckland’s 7 volcanoes. Bravely running down, I stopped in front of a sharp rock. After sliding down the hill, a lamb started chasing me until I jumped over the fence. “Could I carry on?”.

King Kong vs the creepy slug

Stupid King Kong knowingly knowingly embarrassed himself by falling off the emperor state building.
Embarrassing himself knowingly stupid King Kong fell into the zoo.
Knowingly embarrassing himself stupid King Kong ate apples instead of bananas.
Stupid King Kong knowingly embarrassed himself by peeing on an open field.

The creepy slug unfortunately attempted the Olympics.
Unfortunately the creepy slug attempted bungee jumping.
Attempting the unfortunate traveling, the creepy slug almost got crushed by some waves. The creepy slug unfortunately attempted R.W.C.

Alien snot

Have you ever seen aliens snot before? My year 4 & 5 class (Room 13) managed to. At first we had to come in groups of five.

If you’re interested of how to make some foul snot, this is what you do. Add 1 cup of cornflour, then add a little bit of water. Last, add some green food coloring and stir thoroughly.

As I was stirring the cornflour and water, the mixture started smelling like porridge. I bet my group would’ve eaten some if it WAS breakfast. Soon Miss King added the green food coloring and a little bit of water again.

Then when Shalom was stirring, our alien snot turned blue! "How could you be a magician!?" I shouted to Shalom.

Afterwards we had to do some writing. Most people moaned loudly.

Ice cold comets

Have you ever made ice cream comets? Room 13 made some. As we sat patiently, Miss King called up the groups. Outer space came up first.

This is how you make it. At first you scoop some chocolate ice cream in your hands, add some hundreds and thousands with crushed biscuits too. Then you roll it into a ball and add it on a cone and enjoy!

Next up was my group, Supernova. As Miss King put the scoop of ice cream in my hands I thought that I would get frostbite. When Whae janneil put the cone in my hand, I said “Aaaaaaahhhh.” in happiness.

As I slurped up my ice cream before it fell off, I felt different textures on my tongue. The ice cream cooled me down on this hot, spring day.

Once my entire ice cream was slurped away, I went to wash my hands. After my stomach stopped begging for more, I came back in the bay. Miss King then told me that some remains were around my mouth.

If you want to know what a comet is made from, here’s the answer to that question. Comets are made out of rocks, ice, and little dust particles. The tail forms when it comes into the inner solar system (that’s Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) and the sun gravitational pull pulls it nearer and the radiation burns the nuclei inside, creating a tail. And there you go! Your comet information!

I was so happy and that was the same with everybody else. I don’t really know about Levi though.

Feeling nervous on the inside and exited on the outside, I got myself strapped into the seat. I was ready for launch into space.

“Countdown starting” said the instructor. I heard the word ‘ignition get ready fast’. I was horribly exited then.

The next 15 minuets were ear shattering. Breaking the sound barrier, I shook and shuddered all the time through the atmosphere. I was hearing a sonic boom for 5 minuets.

Suddenly everything went silent. I was now heading through this amazing place to the international space station.

Outta this world

Do you know how to use the toilet in space? Do you know what the event horizon does? All of of this is in the term, Outta This World.

Doing my job of being the assembly team, I gave out stickers to people sitting up. Then Mr Burt started telling the school some information about Maui. Then Team 1 had their video starting.

After their cool video ended, Team 2 came up, doing a dance to their rap called The planets Rap. Next was Team 3. They had this video of how to eat and use the toilet in space* they eat by using Velcro to stick their containers on and they must take the water out of the food.

Next up, was Team 4 doing a dance to the song Twinkle Twinkle Little star. Mr Sommervill was pretending to play the guitar, the rest were doing ballet. Pretty funny!

Last but not least was Team 5 with their video of Star Wars. They had their faces on some people and their mouths moved like a puppets mouth moving. So Funny!

And that was the whole Immersion Assembly. Sorry, gotta go to class!

*Just like in the introduction, this his popped up twice and this is how you use the toilet in space, you eager people. There’s a seat belt to hold you on the toilet to hold you on, and you can only put your solids in there. Don’t worry about it floating around, there’s air in there which takes it in space. And to get rid of your liquids, it goes in a funnel with air too, which also goes in space.

Sonny Bill

Stepping away from the maul, Sonny Bill got nearer to the try line. Bravely pushing away some more players, he was an inch away from the line. Soon Sonny bill scored a try.

Making it into the finals, the Vodafone Warriors were ready for their last match. If they won, they win the trophy. If they lose, then it would be hard work for nothing.

Playing in Sydney, Sunday 6:30 they introduced themselves to the Manly Sea Eagles. Ma nu Vatuae scored the first try for the Warriors but the Manly Sea Eagles were still winning. I was thinking in my head that the Warriors would over take them.

Getting in a tie, I was relived when the Warriors scored first! Their gonna win! They’ve GOT to win! I shouted. Soon my sister told me to be quiet. She’s not interested in rugby. Unfortunately.

In the end, the Warriors sadly lost to the Manly Sea Eagles, but at lest they made it this far. Let’s give the Warriors a BIG HAND!

The 6 thinking hats

Hyperstudio, Writing, Maths Whizz, Beep test, Cross Country, and Reading is what I enjoy the most. Drawing is fun, Maths Whizz is great, Beep test and Cross Country I came second in which was amazing, I write a story, then I read it. It's so much fun.

Dancing is almost IMPOSSIBLE for me. If you've seen School Is Too Cool then you'll how silly I look. I'M STILL FRIGHTENED!

I learnt how to find the remainder in division using Maths Whizz. I hope my dreams will come true!

This term is great from learning about rugby and all the countries involved. South Africa or New Zealand MUST WIN!

Maths Whizz contains all the things you need to improve in maths. Wait a minute, Why ain't I on Maths Whizz?

I could study more, eat less junk food and exercise. Oh, yeah sorry, I'm going on Maths Whizz right now!

Aussie Rules

Do you have rugby training with AFL every Thursday? Pt England does. Our coaches, Megan and Allysa show us new things for Aussie rules.

The weather kept changing from sunny to cold then blustery and wet. It was weird of how the weather was going. As we were playing the wind was getting to the point of when it would be like a cyclone. Soon it stopped.

Our warm up was called “Bumper Jumper”. It when you jump on one leg and bump into your partner, and whoever puts their leg down first loses. As Lee and I were doing it, Sebastian tackled Lee.

Then we had to bounce a ball and catch it. First we started on our knees, then stood up and did it, then we ran and bounced it. We have to drop the ball laces up then try to catch it. It was hard because the ball went away in all these different directions.

When the clouds made it look like it was evening, we played kick baseball. It was just like baseball except you drop kick the ball and take another ball, bounce it before you reach a base and keep on going till the ball you kicked gets passed to the backstop. You get points each time you bounce, catch and pass the bases.

The changeable weather may have frustrated us, but it never stopped us from having a great time.

Cross Country

Pt England had Cross Country. My race was 1.5 kms against 34 other fast children. Feeling exited, jittery, and nervous, I jogged  to the line. Then Mr Jacobson said "Take your marks, get set, GO!"

As we were dashing  along the track people were running, tripping and walking. I was catching up and was soon was thinking "C'mon, I've got to lead the pack of eight year old boys. At the front not stay in second place!" Lee was a meter in front of me and I was gaining up on him.

Halfway on the race my legs were dying out really fast and now I was near the finish line.
There was no way for me to gain speed. When I saw Mrs Walters again, I was really glad.

We were close together to the finish line we saw Feki dancing there. Just as I crossed the line, Feki gave me something like a hug. I knew that I had to do a 2 km race next year!

The haka

Preparing to battle, the All Blacks did the Kapo o pango Haka to frighten the opposition. The piercing screams heard in the stadium, offered hope for their country to win. This new All Blacks haka was threatening.

The jandel

Kiaora and welcome to NZ! The Jandel is a rubber shoe with a strap between your big and second toe. It was trade marked in NZ in 1940. It is easy to put on and sometimes slips off while you walk with them. In these days you get different pairs of many kinds.

Everyone was excited when we got told that we got to play badminton. We always had sport on Thursdays but we were running out of sport to do. First we had Baseball, then netball and now Badminton.

At first we learnt the basics (or else you wont know what to do if you haven’t noticed) which was quite easy until we got up to a two person thing. One person throws the shuttles (the thing like a space shuttle except really small) and the other person hits it back then the person who threw the shuttle had to catch it in a small cone. When Lee and I partnered up and started, each time Lee threw the shuttle to I missed it sometimes and Lee would shout at me and I would reply “You throw too hard!”

Eventually I did it and we got the chance to swapped over. Then suddenly it was the other way round! But soon Lee hit the shuttle too hard and I almost tripped over reaching it! Once I tripped over and the shuttle missed the cone about an inch. At last I did it.

Then we had accurate hitting! It was a 2-team game of which team was to see if the other team could get the most shuttles in a bin. One time I missed when it was going straight for the bin “What the....?” most people said. Sadly the winning team was not my team. My team lost 6-5. Well at least we tried our hardest.

Then when we had to leave there was a really loud moan. I think that the school office heard the moan. We were all waiting for Thursday to come again. Lets hope the week goes fast!

The mat

Have you made a mat with 4 different designs? Shalom, Lee, Levi and I have done that. Its was quite hard for even COMING UP WITH IT!! Eh, at least we came up with one and got it finished.

Shalom joined in on the way of creating this, when we were drawing the design.

After all the other dramatic days, it was time to dye our work. We all used blue dye and sometimes Levi and I swapped and each others.

Once we finished it, everyone argued over who's painting was the best. It soon stopped anyway.

In the month of Ramadan

Are you Muslim? Do you know what the month of Ramadan is? Well I'm Muslim and know what Ramadan is. It started when the cresent shaped moon for this month was spotted. This year that was on the first of August. You're meant to fast (that means no drinking OR eating) from before sunrise to just after sunset! Somtimes I can do that and somtimes I do it till 1:00.

After the last day of fasting, is a day of celebration called Eid-ul-Fitr . If its a school day on Eid, you get to miss that day of school.

Jonah Lomu

A man by the name of Jonah Lomu played 63 games for the All Blacks. He was super fast and strong. But no-one would dare to tackle him if he had the ball. That made him a global superstar. But then in 2003 he had serious kidney problems.

With his blood being cleaned 3 times a week by dialysis, he had nerve damage in his feet and arms. In 2004, a radio station man named Grant Kereama, gave one of his kidneys to Jonah Lomu.

Then in 2005 he began a comeback. He went to Wales and Hong Kong, then to Wellington to play rugby again. Finally in 2007 he retired and lived his life.

Beep test

Have you ever ran to cones 20 meters away 150 times? Room 13 did. Well, actually 2 boys made it. Their names are Lee and Mosa. I needed to do one more lap to be with them still to make it to 15. My score was round 14 lap 11. Wasn’t too hard finding out why their faster than me. For the girls the longest record for them was round 10 lap 5. Kashya made the girls record. She got out because everybody needed someone to push them on.

Now you might be wondering who pushed me and that was Lee. I got too tired to go on. When I was about to spew, I was out.

WIlliam Webb Ellis

From 1750 boys at Rugby School played football. It didn’t matter how many people could be on a team. Handling the ball was permitted, but running with it towards the opposition’s goal, was against the rules.
Then in 1823 a boy by the name of William Webb Ellis ran with the ball - essentially inventing the modern game of rugby.
The teachers wrote the new rules after William ran with the ball. They finished writing in 1845. And then onwards that was how rugby was played.

The MOTAT trip

Have you been to MOTAT? You might be jealous since we went there. We went here to see inventions and how they changed. We got split up into 7 groups and went off. In the picture (left side) you can see a 'whisper dish'. The people there are in Miss King's group. In my group I was interested in the space and steam areas. Everything in MOTAT is cool besides those. They even have a mirror maze and an arcade. Most people argued over if street fighter was better than pac-man.

Last we went to the 'tactile dome'. Close you're eyes and you're hands over. Thats how dark it is. I was in the last group. I held on Sosaia's T-shirt and Wakatere held on my T-shirt. Sosaia found most of the ways but soon I let go an made a huge find. While Sosaia and Wakatere went feeling the wall, I felt the slide. At the bottom of the slide I also found the platform about a meter down. We then walked up a ramp, went down another slide and we were out!
As we walked back to the bus, everyone wanted to stay but we couldn't. The bell rang as we got back so then Lee, Levi, Uili and I ran to riverside.

Bigger, Better, Faster, STRONGER!!

This is one of my year 4 extention movies of the term theme 'Bigger, Better, Faster, Stronger'. I know that the term is on its last days, but the year 4 extention children managed to get this done. SPOT ON!!

Now you can sit back, relax, and watch the movie.

Museum awards

Hoping that Rm 13 would win the grand prize, I got on the bus. It wasn’t a long trip to the museum.
After 4 minuets we sat down ready to see all the nominations happen.

When our movie was playing, I hoped that we could beat everyone else in the the competition. As the movie called ‘Utu’ finished, their name was on the screen and we thought we had lost. But just then, the hosts said that actually Room 13 had won the nomination! I couldn’t believe we made the cut!
I saw a bunch of videos that have to do with volcanoes. Those videos were very, very, VERY devastating. It was actually making me frightened.

Then came the grand finals. The prize wasn’t won by us, but it was won by the year 8’s from our school. The girls had made a great animated movie. Even though the year 8’s won the grand prize, we still won a prize - a digital camera. Then my mum and I went home, I was very tired from this exciting experience.

Swimming is great for me for 2 reasons: I get a chance to work on my freestyle and the water is extremely nice and warm. I go swimming on Thursdays so I'm ready for Monday's swimming class. But I really think I need more practice on my backstroke.

Wake forest university

Wake Forest University came over from Winston Salem to learn what New Zealand schools do. It's a whole different story for schools in the U.S.A. They have to follow a rule book to be a teacher. Depressive, isn't it? Meagan came to our class. She seemed nice enough though she was still learning how to be a teacher. There were 8 other teachers, but they never introduced themselves.

Meagan is the lady in the picture.

Sentence beginnings & ends

Shalom & I decided to come up with starts & ends using 'invented the spaceship' to make sentences. It could only be 3 separate sentences. It took us about 4 minutes to finish our work (and have the sentence numbers) for you.
1 "Are you nuts!!??"said the man who invented the spaceship & was rather ugly.
2I flew with the man who invented the spaceship to Europa.
3"Watch out! he robbed the man who invented the spaceship! ---I LOVE HIM!!!!"

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

I daydream of being in a chocolate bed, watching gingerbread cowboys on a candy TV. Sometimes I fly in a spaceship up to the moon, to eat cheese. YUMMY!!!

Tornado alley

3:00.p.m the most unexpected came in Albany. It’s because N.Z never haves tornadoes recently. Lots of debris got picked up and hurled around everywhere. It also lasted 45 minuets.

The damage was extraordinary. The tornado was at category 2 and sounded like a loud jet roar. Since it was like that, people decided to close the harbour bridge but it turned out that they didn’t have to.

The ambush

Room 13 used a story called "what an ambush!" on Toreka's blog to learn about sentence beginnings. The reason why we used her story is because she's a great writer when it comes up to writing. All we had to do was highlight the sentence beginnings and copy and paste them on wordle.net. The picture shows us all the different sentence beginnings that she used in her story.

Alien Earth Base

You want to see Shalom's comic, Levi's comic, & MY comic? Well here's your chance. The best thing about this comic is that we got to make up some pictures from the story that we read called Alien Earth Base. We made our comic on comic life, and pasted it on our blog with a description and click "publish".
And you've got an online comic. And of course you can read my comic.

But before I can tell you what place we came, I need to tell you what we did Item Thumbnailto come _ _ _.We had a lot of triangles to make the bridge strong so we had to cut this and that. When we had done that, we measured it. We were running out of tape because when it was judging time, it was empty!
And we came THIS TIME 2nd!Were getting better by the second!

Straw towers

Did you that 3 & 4 year-olds are WAY MORE CREATIVE than 8 & 9 year-olds? Well, there’s a class that made STRAW TOWERS.
This was for our topic Bigger, Better,Stronger, & faster. I was on a team with Sosaia, Lee, Isaiah, Sebastian, and Brandon. The main point was to make the tallest tower that could stand by itself. We were the only team that created a good standing building named “y”. Well I made the “y” without help or tape. I could also make a tap without help or tape, too. Then it was judging time! This was like a science project. While I was thinking about that, my team came 3rd in size.
It's term 2. BE CREATIVE NOW!

What it's like being part of the assembly team

I admit this is the first time I've signed up for a job but thats O.K, being an assembly committee is great! At first, before the assembly starts Mr Burt gives us the korero and tells the WHOLE SCHOOL the korero on Friday and it will be part of the rules for Pt England School. While 1 person does technician, the rest hand out stickers to people sitting up nicely.

Now I'm telling how I do technician! First of all, you get everything ready. When the assembly starts, do what you'd do in a slideshow. If you need to skip something, press escape and go to that bit. Don't worry, a picture will appear on the projector screen. If you do that, I guarantee you will get everything right.

Glee Performance

Last week on Friday, there was a glee performance. It was a great performance because they had practiced a whole bunch for days.
Lepa got to do the rapping, some good netball players had to be in the performance, it equaled a great show.
Miss M was the leader of the whole show. There were some stage shy people, but they didn’t give up. They sang about the Pt England Way giving everyone information about what a Pt Englander does. It was a great performance.

Christchurch earthquake

Item Thumbnail
Yesterday on Tuesday, Christchurch was the scene for New Zealand’s darkest day. A 6.3 magnitude earthquake at 12:51 PM in Christchurch struck the city. John Campbell of 3 News went there to report about the devastation.
The civil defence team said “There may be more than 75 people dead and maybe hundreds of people injured. It all happened when buildings crushed people.”

Liquefaction was everywhere to be seen.Liquefaction is when the ground turns to mud from water that bubbles up from below.

Wellington and Auckland Hospitals are only open for emergencies, so essential services can be left for Christchurch's people. In Christchurch there aren’t enough ambulances to help so people decided to help be the ambulance for them. They also made makeshift hospitals in parks that will be open until they aren’t needed anymore.

This event was devastating and was heartbreaking. People have been choked by brick dust and some died. People lost water, people couldn't see and breathe and some have lost everything.

The huge death tolls make an uncertain future for everyone. The rescue effort and evacuation was big. Lots of vulnerable things have been lost. The destruction has been huge and no one is sure of when this will end.

There was a hole that was very deep inside malls.Landslides happened, people ran for their lives and there were aftershocks that kept coming.Hundreds don’t like the events that are happening now.

Some people have water and electricity.Others don’t.Firemen and others are looking for the loved ones.Cars were destroyed in destruction.Chischurch’s weather was bad, coming with a hole bunch of army tanks to help them. What most people need is water. They can only boil water they get.You could smell and feel the earthquake which is very bad.The civil defence team says the answer is securing the place.People must search their street for hidden people who are stuck in rubble.

In the past, this was the most devastating until 2008.There could be more people that might die by starvation.Lots of people should be recovering now to survive all those death tolls. While others still remain in buildings trying to survive with no remains of food, and worrying when a aftershock comes and crushes them.
