Empathy vs Sympathy

Empathy and sympathy are different. How? Well, empathy is where someone is hurt, (e.g. someone falling over) and you know what they’re going through. Sympathy is where you just feel sad for the person. For example, someone broke their arm, but you never broke yours. You might feel sad for them, but you don’t know what they went through.

Empathy is where someone went through something, and you know what it’s like, as you went through it yourself. Take this for example. Someone trips over. You know what it’s like since you went through that. That is empathy.

Sympathy, on the other hand, is just when you feel for the person, without going through that yourself. Let’s say that a colossal tornado destroys someone’s house. You haven’t gone through that, but you feel recognition about their suffering.

So that’s the difference between empathy and sympathy. I hope you learnt more about those 2 emotions!
